Pugs can be stubborn, but they are usually simple to teach. The breed is upbeat, enjoys playing, and can even be comical at times..
The Pug is a popular companion dog because it is extremely playful and affectionate. It is confident, active without being hyperactive, has a positive attitude, enjoys playing, and a ccommodating of new dogs and people.
The Pug's exercise requirements are moderate and can be met in a small yard or by lead walks. They are usually Apartment-friendly, and capable of sleeping up to 14 hours a day.
Exercise needs are moderate. Extreme care must be taken to avoid overheating. Most are poor swimmers. Though small, the Pug is subject to hip dysplasia. Any play or exercise should be gentle, and the diet should be monitored—with little or no snacking—since the dogs are prone to obesity, which can contribute to hip dysplasia.
Pugs weight between 14 and 18 pounds (6 to 8 kg). To avoid infection, face wrinkles should be cleansed and dried on a regular basis. Back difficulties, seizures, allergies, hemi-vertebrae (or malformed vertebrae), hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and nerve degeneration can all occur in pugs later in life.
